GS Forums
Here is an exerpt from a Maximum PC forum-a post from a current GS employee
I just joined the Geek Squad after a layoff. I
thought I would be doing in home service or business service since I
have an AAS, A+ and Net+ and 7 years of field service experience in IT.
Nope got stuck in the store doing 80% sales and 20% tech work. Now I'm
working with guys who have barely touched a PC. THe customers almost
cry when I have one of the other techs touch their machines they know
the horror that awaits. All the while the Double Agent who was hired at
the same time I was is running in home calls. His great experience an
office supply store selling PC's. He has no certs and no college and no
plans for them either. He didn't even know what a POTS line was or a
multimeter and had major difficulties installing a vid card. Oh and
lets not forget his 4 hours of work on a wireless network.
Yeah it took that long to install a wireless card in two PC's and get
them to talk. Geek Squad is a nightmare in my opinion your talent is
less then stellar in the store and in the field. They take savvy vets
like me (I'm under 30 ) hahhahah and put us in the store doing
benchwork and training other less experienced techs with your pc for
practice. I thought Geek Squad would've been more tech savvy then they
are instead they are a bunch of glorified sales people. Beware when you
bring your pc in I've checked out some of the other locations in my
area and this seems to be the trend.
